Trident Ploughshares Big Blockade

Posted: 8th December 2010

Trident submarines undergo refitting, upgrades and maintenance at the Devonport dockyard in Plymouth.

Early on Monday morning, November 1st, campaigners peacefully blockaded access to the gates of the base.

Up to 50 peace activists demonstrated their solidarity with the 12 people arrested.

Another group of activists landed on Drakes Island, in Plymouth Sound, displaying anti-Trident banners and declaring it to be a nuclear-free zone.

Protestors had come from Devonport itself, and as far away as Wales, Scotland & Europe.

The Big Blockade was organised by Trident Ploughshares and supported by CND.
