What peace means to school children

Posted: 24th November 2012

Here are some quotes from pupils at the end of the CND Peace lessons at Wyvern College Boys School and St Edmunds Girls School, Year 7, aged 11- 12 years old

Pre- Christmas 2011

(They are asked to write what Peace means to them)

Consequences are like a sapling. They get bigger.

Peace is like a still pond. When disturbed it ripples.

I think peace is being the best person you can be, respect everyone around you and forgive and forget. Everyone should bring peace to others and then it will be a great world.

Peace is when you make sacrifices for other people and are willing to apologise.

Peace involves hope and joy; it gets you up in the morning. Peace involves love, love is like oxygen, love and peace lifts us up where we belong, all you need is love and peace.

Peace is loving, caring for others, apologising when in the wrong. Treat others how you would like to be treated. Peace costs nothing, but war does…

Peace is taking into mind other people’s opinions; it is apologising for mistakes you’ve made and sharing with others.

To make peace you have to share and not take advantage of your friends and family.

Peace is being respectful of others, tolerant of their mistakes and cooperative with everyone.

Respect is being patient and accepting things, to be tolerant and give forgiveness. Sometimes you show apologising in a different way and they will accept that’s your way of saying “I’m sorry”.

The golden rule for peace is: Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Peace is love and joy. You apologise when you’re wrong and forgive others. Honesty is key for a world of peace. To trust others. To share compassion. To be patient at least. Always listen and show tolerance to others.

Whoever you are, wherever you are from, however old you are, all of you have the qualities of peace in you. They are trust, love, tolerance, respect, compassion, courage, forgiveness and patience.

Peace is a special thing and it means a lot to people, but unfortunately there is not a lot around in this world, so this Christmas think about making some peace for you and others!
