Walk away for 100 years- Fukushima

Posted: 10th February 2015

Arne Gundersen, an experienced nuclear engineer from Fairwinds Engineering, compares and contrasts the accidents at Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima.

He concludes that there are important differences in the nature of these three incidents. For Fukushima an underground wall needs to be built to prevent groundwater entering the site. He then recommends walking away from the site for 100 years, as radiation levels are too high for workers to be exposed in any other attempted clean up.

This suggested approach is in stark contrast to the current position of the Japanese government.
