There's an important demo at Menwith Hill

There’s an important demo at Menwith Hill, coming up on 9th March, that we need you to get involved in!

Join us outside the main gates of ‘RAF’ (aka NSA/NRO) Menwith Hill for this important protest against US imperialism and the US government’s support for the war on Gaza and the Palestinian people.

When? – Sunday 9th March from 2-4pm

Where? – Menwith Hill (main gate), Harrogate, HG3 2RF (on maps you might find it easier to search for the RAF Menwith Hill Visitor Center)

Transport – Due to the remoteness of this base, getting there by public transport is near impossible. Therefore we recommend you get in touch (via [email protected]) for support with transport. There are plans for car shares and potential minibuses from York, Sheffield & Leeds. If you’re a keen cyclist, then it’s a 50 minute cycle from Harrogate station.

Food will be supplied by the Leeds & York Food Not Bombs groups.

CONTEXT

Using this US military base as a target for this action was chosen due to its use in information gathering, and the base being seen as key target should this or other wars escalate to a nuclear level.

Thousands of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military actions supported by British arms exports. Israel’s bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza and the forced displacement of innocent civilians fly in the face of international humanitarian law, and Britain is assisting in these war crimes in more ways than one.

One way will be through the activities at Menwith Hill. Operatives there are busy supplying the US intelligence services with information, some of which will be used to help the Israeli Defence Forces target their attacks in Gaza.

In 2016 top-secret documents obtained by Edward Snowden showed that Menwith Hill collects and analyses satellite data obtained by intercepting electronic communications (emails, texts, telephone calls, etc) and passes on anything of interest to the US National Security Agency.
