Dear Councillors and Colleagues,
I have just been advised of this event which might be of interest.
“Living through the End – Nuclear war in 1980s TV & movies” is being organised in collaboration with DePaul Humanities Center in Chicago on Earth Day, Tues 22nd April.
With Min-Kyoo Kim, a film scholar from Cambridge University, Vicky Lesley, a film maker and director, ‘The Atom: A Love Affair’ and Prof Allison McCracken, a specialist in 20th century American media and cultural history, the panellists will be looking at the experience of nuclear war and its aftermath for ordinary citizens as depicted in 1980s film & TV in the US & UK – in particular, Testament (1983, US), The Day After (1983, US) and Threads (1984, UK).
The event is FREE to attend and all are welcome. Registration via the Eventbrite link below isn’t required (the Zoom meeting link is on the Eventbrite page if people want to just decide on the day) but it will help us have an idea of numbers beforehand
