A nuclear weapons - free Middle East: How do we get there?

Event Date: 29th April 2025
Location: Internet, 2 - 3pm

Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

The creation of a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East has never been more vital. Nuclear-armed Israel remains outside the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and continues to act with impunity: abandoning its Gaza ceasefire to continue its genocide of Palestinians and is once again bombing Lebanon.

Meanwhile, after pulling out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action during his first term in office, Donald Trump is threatening to bomb Iran if it doesn’t come to an agreement over its nuclear programme. Creating a nuclear weapons-free Middle East would completely transform security in the region. But we won’t get there with threats of another US-led war.

What’s needed is dialogue without preconditions between the countries of the region and for other countries, such as Britain, to take more effective measures in UN forums to support such a zone.

Join CND Vice-President Jeremy Corbyn MP on 29 April, live from the UN nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Preparatory Committee (PrepCom), were we will discuss what are the prospects for the creation of a nuclear weapons-free zone in the region and how we as campaigners can build support for it.
