Online Nakba commemoration event

Event Date: 12th May 2025
Location: Online 6pm

This week marks 77 years of Nakba – a violent catastrophe that is ongoing with the current genocide its most extreme and brutal episode. As part of our Nakba 77 week of action, we are emailing you every day with a total of 9 actions to take in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Tonight, will you join our online Nakba commemoration event at 6pm, jointly organised with the British Palestinian committee: “Ongoing Nakba: Palestinian reflections”?

Every year in May, Palestinians and the solidarity movement commemorate the 1947/8 Nakba which saw the ethnic cleansing of more than 750,000 Palestinian people from their homeland. In the words of Palestinian poet and author Mahmoud Darwish, ‘the Nakba is not a memory; it is a continuous uprooting’.

This evening, Palestinian activists, scholars and artists will discuss and share their testimonies, experiences and responses in commemoration of the Nakba and highlight how it continues to this day. Speakers include Dana Dajani, Selma Dabbagh, Ghasan Ghaben, and Ahmed Alnaouq. You won’t want to miss this powerful and moving session. Click below to tune in!

Throughout this week we reassert the truth that Israel’s violence is built on the foundations of over 77 years of settler colonialism, military occupation, and the imposition upon all Palestinians of a system of apartheid. We remember Britain’s culpability as the former colonial power and demand an end to British complicity in Israel’s ongoing atrocities.

We also mark more than 77 years of Palestinian resilience and determination. This year it is more important than ever that we mobilise in huge numbers.

Join our webinar this evening, and take part in the rest of the actions this week as we build up to up to the Nakba demonstration this Saturday 17 May at 12noon.
