Event Date: 9th September 2025
Location: Friends Meeting House in Brighton Centre, 2pm
Stop the War is organising a fringe meeting on Tuesday 9th September at the Friends Meeting House in Brighton during the TUC conference. We have a fantastic line up of speakers including Fran Heathcote, Lindsey German, Daniel Kebede, Ashok Kumar and Alex Gordon.
Funnelling billions into the military is not about defence — it’s about propping up a global order built on war, arms sales, and occupation. The UK government continues to arm Israel as it wages a brutal and illegal war on Palestinians in Gaza. At the same time, it escalates military spending in Ukraine while showing no serious commitment to diplomacy or peace. This is not in the interests of working people in Britain, Palestine, Ukraine, or anywhere else.
Meanwhile, at home, NHS workers are struggling for basic pay, schools are underfunded, public services are collapsing and we’re told there’s no money unless it’s for warplanes, bombs and more arms for repressive regimes.
The TUC should be leading the call to divert resources from war to welfare, not giving cover to a political agenda that prioritises weapons over wellbeing.
Join us for this vital discussion on how unions can take a stand against war, resist growing militarism, and demand public spending that serves people, not arms dealers.
Stop the War is also organising a protest on Sunday 7th September in Brighton during the TUC conference to support the UCU’s lobby of the TUC — and to urge the TUC to take a principled stand against increased UK defence spending.
Spread the word and join us.
