International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons

Event Date: 26th September 2019
Location: Wherever you are

Today is the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, and it’s going to be a big day. As our campaigners celebrate the occasion in cities and towns all over the world, the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will also welcome its newest signatories and States Parties during a high levelceremony at UN headquarters in New York this afternoon. Find out which countries are taking this big step directly from our livestream today:

Today, our campaigners around the world are working hard to make sure the issue is on everybody’s mind. Any use of nuclear weapons would have catastrophic humanitarian and environmental impacts, and the risk of this threat becoming a reality is increasing at an alarming pace. We must eliminate nuclear weapons before they eliminate us, and it would be amazing if you could help us amplify this message.

Every time someone speaks up against nuclear weapons and says: “I believe nuclear weapons are inhumane, immoral and illegal and all countries should join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons” it chips away at the legitimacy. So tell a friend or family member, and, if you’re in a country that has or endorses nuclear weapons, take to social media to demand change from your politicians.

Together, we are banning nuclear weapons and together we can eliminate them.

Thank you,
