An emergency online briefing: Venezuela

Shortly before the New Year, we hosted an online briefing regarding the United States’ escalations in Latin America and illegal blockade in the Caribbean. On Saturday morning, we woke to the shocking news that Donald Trump had ordered a raid on the city of Caracas, killing at least 80 civilians and kidnapping Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.
Trump’s comments following the nakedly set out his disgraceful plans to raid Venezuela of its rich natural resources and enable US oil giants to extract profits at the cost of national sovereignty for the Venezuelan people. Further to this abominable act, the British government has refused to offer even timid criticism of Trump’s actions and their potential repercussions in the wider region of Latin America.
In response to Trump’s egregious act of criminality, we are hosting an emergency online briefing at 7:30PM on the evening of Thursday 8 January. We will be joined by our founder Jeremy Corbyn MP as well as the Venezuelan Ambassador to the United Kingdom Felix Plasencia, Professor Francisco Dominguez, Vijay Prashad and Professor Oscar Guardiola Rivera.
