Below I’m forwarding some LINKS AND IDEAS from ICAN’s staff team for ways to celebrate and highlight the importance of the TPNW.

This meeting will be an open roundtable to discuss what you want to do — not only for the Banniversary on 22 January, but in 2026 as a whole — Come with your thoughts, ideas and questions, — and LET’S DISCUSS AND GET INSPIRED!

We all know that campaigning for nuclear disarmament in the UK is not easy.  In recent years nuclear weapons are being ratcheted up by the UK and other nuclear-armed governments in the wake of Russia’s nuclear-armed invasion of Ukraine, but that’s all the more reason to challenge the expansion of nuclear roles and weapons and the DANGEROUS WASTE OF RESOURCES that are squandered on nuclear weapons when our REAL HUMAN SECURITY needs are not being resourced and promoted.  This will be a critical year, with the NPT Review Conference for 4 weeks from 26 April, and the first ever TPNW Review Conference for one week from 30 November 2026.

Join us for 90 minutes on January 7th so that we can share ideas, discuss the Banniversary, and support each other to take the nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament Treaties forward in 2026.

Our thoughts are with all who are struggling for peace and justice.

Gari, Janet, Lauren, Magali, Rebecca and the ICAN-UK team.

Hi everyone,

Happy new year! We’re already looking forward to building on all of 2025’s amazing 80th anniversary activities and wanted to highlight a few things coming up:

22 January – 5 Years of the TPNW

We’re getting ready to brush away the doomsday blues by celebrating five years since the TPNW went into effect. We wanted to remind you that we’ve got some stuff on the website including:

We also made a few things available in our webshop that could be useful, like banners and stickers (but check delivery times!).

27 January – Doomsday Clock Announcement

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists will be announcing the new timing on the clock at 15.00 GMT (10.00 ET) on January 27, and this is always a great opportunity to connect with your local media who might cover the announcement. As always, we’ll send some talking points and share-ables when the announcement is made, but now is a great time to reach out and remind any journalists near you that have covered nuclear weapons issues recently that you know the announcement is coming, and you’ll be happy to put it into your local context when it does.

5 February – New START Treaty expires

We are monitoring discussions closely and are putting together some talking points which we’ll circulate as we get closer to the expiration date of this arms control treaty between Russia and the US.

That’s just in the first few weeks after the new year!

In 2026, we also expect to connect with many people around the NPT Review Conference in April/May and are also gearing up for the first Review Conference of the TPNW- 30 November – 4 December. Mark your calendar!

Thanks for all the work you put in and being part of this campaign, and we look forward to a great year together,

Susi & the team
