What happens when a child in Gaza needs urgent surgery that cannot be performed inside the Strip?
Who decides whether they are allowed to leave?
And what happens when that permission never comes?
On Wednesday 25 March at 3pm (UK time) we are hosting:
With Stav Salpeter, Director of International Relations at Gisha
Medical evacuation is not an abstract policy issue. It is the difference between life and death for thousands of Palestinians.
Stav Salpeter works at the forefront of legal and international advocacy around freedom of movement and humanitarian access. She brings a rare combination of legal expertise, grassroots activism, and international diplomacy.
Stav currently serves as Director of International Relations at Gisha. Previously she worked with Itach-Ma’aki: Women Lawyers for Social Justice and Yachad in the UK. She holds an MA (Hons) in International Relations and International Law from the University of Edinburgh, where she was awarded the Principal’s Medal for leadership. She also serves on the national leadership of Standing Together in Israel.
This conversation will explore:
The legal framework governing medical evacuations
The bureaucratic barriers facing patients
The humanitarian and political implications
What responsibility third states – including the UK – carry
If recognition of Palestine is to mean anything in practice, it must include protecting life.
We hope you will join us.
