World Beyond War annual virtual film festival

Event Date: 14th March 2026
Location: Online

Our annual virtual film festival is coming up soon! Every March, we host our popular film festival to watch and discuss pertinent anti-war documentaries. This year’s timely theme examines the increasing repression of nonviolent protest, criminalization of dissent, and the curtailing of freedom of speech worldwide. Get your ticket.

How It Works:

  • 1 ticket gets you access to all 3 films and 3 Zoom discussions.
  • You will get the screening links to watch the films on your own time leading up to the Zoom discussions.
  • Join us live on Zoom on March 14, March 21, and March 28 to talk with key representatives from the films and special guests!

Film 1: Boycott

Boycott traces the impact of state legislation in the U.S. designed to penalize individuals and companies that choose to boycott Israel due to its human rights record. Boycott is a bracing look at the far-reaching implications of anti-boycott legislation and an inspiring tale of everyday Americans standing up to protect our rights in an age of shifting politics and threats to freedom of speech.

In the March 14 panel discussion, we will hear from two of the protagonists featured in the film. Additionally, we’ll be joined by panelists from around the world to speak about anti-BDS policies and repression of Palestinian rights activism worldwide.

Film 2: Silenced: The War on Journalism

This 2025 Al Jazeera documentary shines a light on journalists who paid the ultimate price for their work. From war zones to political cover-ups, their courageous reporting exposed critical truths, but also made them targets. As attacks on journalists rise globally, the film exposes how press freedom is under siege in both autocratic regimes and democratic societies.

The March 21 panel discussion will be moderated by WBW Executive Director David Swanson with special guest Jeff Cohen and other panelists to be announced. Jeff Cohen founded the media watch group FAIR in 1986. He is the author of Cable News Confidential: My Misadventures in Corporate Media. He was senior producer of MSNBC’s Phil Donahue primetime show until it was terminated three weeks before the Iraq invasion.

Film 3: Solidarity Crime

Solidarity Crime denounces the systematic policies of human rights violations against migrants and all those who have stood in solidarity with them. Migrants have been criminalized for years; for more than a decade now, even people who show solidarity and help them have been considered “solidarity criminals”.

Building on the themes of the film, the March 28 panel discussion will delve into how war and militarism drive people from their homes, causing mass displacement. And how the very same weapons companies profiting from war and conflict cash in when governments militarize borders and block the movement of people fleeing violence.

This year’s virtual film festival creates space for this timely discussion of what’s at stake for those who stand up for peace and justice, and how we can rise up in solidarity to grow our movements in the face of repression.
