What is the real cost of war?

Event Date: 3rd June 2026
Location: Online,

What is the real cost of war?

Not the cost counted in budgets, headlines, or maps—but the cost paid in homes, in classrooms, in hospital rooms, and in the quiet lives of people who never chose to be part of history. The True Price of War is a short, powerful, and deeply human book of reflective stories. Each chapter focuses on an ordinary person—a child, a mother, a doctor, a refugee, a teacher, a survivor—and a single moment in which the meaning of conflict becomes personal and irreversible.

In June 2026, World BEYOND War will be holding a weekly discussion each of the book The True Price of War with author J. M. Badiyani.

When you register for the club, we will mail you a paperback copy of the book or get you a kindle version (your choice).

We’ll let you know which parts of the book will be discussed each week along with the Zoom details to access the discussions.

About the Book:

This is not a book about politics, nations, or military strategies.

It is a book about:

  • What happens to childhood when fear arrives too early
  • What waiting does to a mother
  • What a doctor learns when there are too many to save
  • What it means to carry one’s home in a bag
  • What remains when victory feels empty
  • And what kind of world is left for those who come after

Written in a restrained, literary style, this book avoids slogans and arguments. It does not tell the reader what to think. It simply stays with human moments long enough for their meaning to be felt.

If you are looking for:

  • A serious, thoughtful, and emotionally honest book
  • A short read that stays in the mind much longer than it takes to finish
  • A human perspective on conflict, beyond headlines and ideologies

…this book is for you.

A quiet book. A heavy subject. A lasting aftertaste.

About the Author:
