Peace in Taiwan

Event Date: 22nd May 2026
Location: Online, 1:30 - 2:30 BST

Join us via Zoom on Friday, May 22 at 8:30pm-9:30pm Taipei Time (that’s 2:30pm in Amsterdam, 1:30pm in Yaoundé, 8:30am in New York).

This conversation tackles the current situation in Taiwan and how we can amplify calls for peace.

Taiwan faces a critical resilience gap, having limited stockpiles of essential medicines and medical resources, a need for hardened communications systems, weakened information integrity with media organizations lacking resources for fact-checking; all this as tensions in the Taiwan Strait remain high and unstable. A recent meeting between Taiwan’s opposition leader Cheng Li-wun and China’s President Xi Jinping in Beijing drew criticism from the ruling party as Taiwan continues its assertion of independence. And the recently concluded Balikatan military exercises between the U.S., the Philippines, and Japan took place near the South China Sea and Taiwan.

There is a need to amplify calls for neutrality as militarization in the region continues and rivalry between the U.S. and China persists.

We invite everyone to join this discussion on the situation in Taiwan and how we can contribute to peacebuilding across the region.

Our speaker, Brian Hioe (丘琦欣), is a writer, editor, translator, activist, and DJ based out of Taipei.
