Event Date: 26th November 2026
Location: Online, 3pm

We are pleased to invite you to our next Britain Palestine Project webinar:

Parallel Roads to Ruin – Islamism, Zionism and the Struggle for Palestine with John McHugo, on the day of this book’s launch
Thursday 26 November | 3pm UK time | Online

Zionism and Islamism both emerged in response to oppression and injustice, aiming to bring dignity, freedom and security to the downtrodden followers of two of the world’s great religions.

Yet both have also become associated with oppression, injustice and the use of violence in pursuit of political goals, contributing to bitter hatreds whose consequences continue to shape Israel and Palestine today.

Author and Middle East historian John McHugo will trace the parallel and intertwined histories of Zionism and Islamism, examining their relationship with Europe and ‘the West’, nineteenth-century nationalism, and the struggle for Palestine.

From Theodor Herzl, David Ben-Gurion, Menachem Begin and Benjamin Netanyahu to Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, Sayyid Qutb and Shaykh Ahmad Yassin, McHugo will explore the personalities and ideas that shaped these movements and the historical forces that brought them to the present moment.

We hope you can join us.
