We invite you to join an online event on September 3 (5:30pm CET) with Ela Gandhi and some special friends to discuss Peace, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation in Africa and the World, the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi for protecting current and future generations.
The event commemorates the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the UN – the birth of hope for global peace and disarmament. Mahatma Gandhi, who lived in South Africa from 1893-1914, created a legacy for peace and justice that continues to inspire today, led in South Africa by the Phoenix Settlement Trust he established in 1904 and the Gandhi Development Trust established by his grand-daughter Ela Gandhi.
This webinar on September 3 will explore contemporary threats to peace and justice in South Africa, the African continent and globally, with a focus on the risks and impacts of nuclear weapons, nuclear energy and war. It will highlight the need to redirect resources from militarism to peace, public health and sustainable development, especially in this time of COVID-19. And it will provide inspiring examples of actions by youth, women, faith-based communities and the United Nations to address these issues.
