Keep Space For Peace event

Event Date: 10th October 2020
Location: Internet 2pm

on Saturday 10th October at 2pm

In 2020, MHAC and the Yorkshire branch of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (YCND) are working together to hold an online event on Saturday 10th October at 2pm. This will feature speakers, film and an on-line link with protesters at the Menwith Hill Base.

The Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space organises Keep Space For Peace Week (3rd to 10th October 2020) annually. All over the world, groups of people who are concerned about the increasing threat to peace and the environment from the militarisation of space take action to highlight the issues.

MHAC’s event will focus on the two US bases in Yorkshire, Fylingdales and Menwith Hill. As you probably know, Fylingdales, on the North York Moors, is an operational military base supporting the US developing Missile ‘Defence’ system. A short film about Fylingdales, made by YCND, will be shown.

Menwith Hill is an intelligence gathering base run by the US National Security Agency, which is used for monitoring, surveillance, drone operations and as part of the Missile ‘Defence’ system. One of the speakers, Will Griffin, recently made a film about the role of Menwith Hill Base and will be showing extracts from the film.

Further information about the event and instructions on how to register are available on the website www.themhac.uk  and will be available at www.yorkshirecnd.org.uk.
