On January 20, the
Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons entered-into-force (See
The Nuclear Ban Is Here. Now What?). Then on January 26, President Biden, in one of his first achievements as President, announced an agreement with Russia to
extend the START nuclear arms control agreement.
Even with these positive developments, the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists announced on January 27 that the Doomsday Clock remains at
100 Seconds to Midnight, indicating how close we still are to the possibility of nuclear annihilation.
Joshua Cooper, host of the
ThinkTechHawaii Cooper UNion program, will today discuss with three experts the risks of nuclear weapons, the importance of nuclear disarmament and the politics of nuclear abolition.
