[ICAN UK] Final and updated flyer for the UK & Ireland Mayors for Peace Chapter

Dear ICAN, CND, peace groups and European Mayors for Peace colleagues,

I attach the final and updated flyer for Friday’s UK & Ireland Mayors for Peace Chapter. It will take place from 1.30pm – 3.30pm (GMT, 2.30 – 4.30pm CET). I am pleased to note we now can include a speaker from Manchester’s twin city, Chemnitz, considering its ‘Day of Peace’ and how German cities remember past conflicts.

The speakers include:

• The Lord Mayor of Manchester will open the webinar with Cllr Eddy Newman of Manchester City Council chairing the webinar.
• As Chapter Secretary, I will provide an update on the Mayors for Peace at the cross-national, European and global level.
• Rebecca Johnson, on the Steering Group of ICAN, will outline developments with the ICAN Cities Appeal and wider defence policy affecting the Chapter.
• Anna Lubelska, Co-Founder of the Peaceful Schools initiative, will outline its work around encouraging schools to develop peace education programmes.
• Ulrike Eckhert of the Chemnitz International Office will look at its Day of Peace, remembering conflict and its role as a future European Capital of Culture.
• Richard Outram, Policy Officer at Oldham Council, will outline how the Council is using gingko tree seeds provided by Hiroshima as part of a schools and parks peace education programme.
