Protest over Royal Navy Carrier Strike Group heading to Pacific

Event Date: 23rd May 2021
Location: To be announced

‘I still think with a proper balanced Royal Navy task group, with the F-35s, nuclear submarines and Type 45 destroyers that if we met up with a group of their [Russian] ships – particularly their old, battered carrier (the Admiral Kuznetsov), which is rubbish – it would be a very good ending, we’d sink them all and be home for tea and medals.’

These are the words of the former head of the Royal Navy, Admiral Lord Alan West, as Britain prepares to send its new Carrier Strike Group on a provocative voyage to the Pacific. Such incendiary rhetoric demonstrates a military establishment that have taken leave of their senses.

In the face of a global pandemic our military establishment is launching a threatening naval mission, equipped with fighter jets, helicopters and bombs around the globe. It sends all the wrong messages.

Alongside Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament we are planning actions to highlight and counter the threat that this escapade presents as it leaves on 23 May. We’ll be sending out more details very soon.
