Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombing remembered
‘Not Once, but Twice – Never Again’
Each August the anniversary of the dropping of the first atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 is commemorated across the world. This year, on the 76th anniversary, peace activists from Didcot and Oxford will come together to remember and to call on the UK Government to sign up to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW).
Hiroshima Day, Friday 6th August, will be marked with a gathering for reflection beside Ladygrove Lake in Didcot, while Nagasaki Day will be commemorated in Bonn Square, Oxford on Monday 9th August.
To physically link these two events, we plan to undertake a Peace Walk from Didcot to Oxford along the Thames Path during Sunday 8th and Monday 9th August.
Along the way we will give out leaflets and speak to people we meet. If you would be interested in taking part in the walk (for all or just part of the route) or joining us at one of the events, please do get in touch.

‘Not Once, but Twice – Never Again’
Please come and support this ceremony in Bonn Square next Monday. There will be vigils, poetry and singing from the Sea Green Singers, and we will be joined by campaigners from Didcot who will have marched to Oxford over the weekend.
Please bring any poetry and readings you like for the event.
Let me know what you’ll bring so I can form a programme.
Thanks – see you there.
