A panel discussion to show how the recently-announced and reckless Conservative government energy plan will worsen the energy and climate crisis, leave people in fuel poverty, deprive workers of jobs in the fastest-growing renewable energy sector and drive energy bills higher. How can we best change this?

Our expert guests will explore how retrofitting and insulating homes and businesses and redirecting funds wasted on new nuclear pipe dreams into energy efficiency and renewables, would save more on electric bills, reduce more carbon, and provide thousands of long-term jobs.

We will look at how new nuclear power plants, decades away, expensive and inflexible, are not a boon for unions and the welfare of their members, providing limited and short-term jobs while stifling renewable expansion that would provide safer and sustainable employment.

We will look at what is needed to move the climate and trades union movements towards overt opposition to existing and future nuclear power use.

And finally, we will examine the motivation behind the Government’s push for new nuclear power plants, in reality unrelated to easing the energy crisis and all about maintaining Britain’s nuclear weapons arsenal.
