Register for the Abolition 2000 Annual MeetingNew environment for nuclear disarmament, the invasion of Ukraine and the upcoming NPT Review Conference
The Abolition 2000 Annual Meeting takes place just over a week prior to the
2022 Review Conference of States Parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the first major, multilateral, nuclear-policy-related event involving nuclear armed, allied and non-nuclear states since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Abolition 2000
members and
working groups are feeding into the
NPT Review Conference through working papers (e.g.
NWC Reset: Frameworks for a Nuclear-Weapon-Free World and
No-First Use of Nuclear Weapons: An Exploration of Unilateral, Bilateral and Plurilateral Approaches and their Security, Risk-reduction and Disarmament Implications), side events, appeals (e.g.
Fulfil the NPT: From nuclear threats to human security) and direct advocacy.
Focus of the 2022 Abolition 2000 Annual Meeting
The world has changed significantly since Abolition 2000’s last annual meeting in 2021. In order to make sense of these changes and their implications for the work of those campaigning to abolish nuclear weapons, the 2022 annual meeting will include a general discussion about nuclear disarmament strategies.
- What are the effects of the Ukraine war on our work?
- How has it changed perceptions about nuclear weapons and about prospects for disarmament?
- Are there previous assumptions that have guided our work that might require reflection, and perhaps revision?
- What have you been doing differently due to the changed global context, or what do you think we should consider doing differently?
If you have thoughts or opinions on any of these questions, please bring them to the Abolition 2000 Annual meeting. See also the collection of
Statements on the Russian invasion of Ukraine by Abolition 2000 member organizations.
