We Can't Afford Their Wars - No Increase in Military Spending!

The new Truss government is committed to doubling military spending by 2030 while refusing to rule out benefit cuts to the poor. As the economy crumbles and living standards drop, the defence budget will increase by a record £52 billion to £100 billion per year. The message is clear: a massive military spending spree and tax cuts for billionaires and corporations; swathing cuts for struggling families and pensioners.

We’re going to be doing everything we can to oppose this appalling agenda. Last Sunday we took to the streets of Birmingham, where the Tory Conference was being held, with our ‘We Won’t Pay For Your Wars’ banner held aloft and found an anti-war mood reverberating through the crowds.

 

There’s a widespread anger about ever-increasing budgets for weapons and war while children go hungry and NHS waiting lists continue to grow. This frustration was voiced by Lindsey German in her speech to the thousands who had gathered in Victoria Square: “We’ve had two decades of war and enough is enough”.

 

It’s essential that we stay in the streets over the coming months and bring down this government so these changes don’t take effect. The next National Demonstration will be in London on November 5th. Make sure you do all you can to build it.
