How Do We Get Peace In Ukraine? – Weds 26 Oct

It is a matter of urgency that Western powers, including Britain, push for a ceasefire in Ukraine before it spirals further out of control. The risk of nuclear war is increasing with every passing day as attacks continue. Ukraine has become the battleground for a proxy war between Russia and the West. For the sake of all Ukrainians and working people across the globe this war must be brought to an end as soon as possible.

As Stop the War Deputy President wrote at the start of this week:

“For months Stop the War has been warning of an uncontrolled escalation of the war in Ukraine. Now that escalation is happening before our eyes…

The British government has no policy beyond pushing for a Ukrainian military victory.

Stop the War has called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory occupied since the start of the war.

However, it remains the case that this is unlikely to be achieved by Ukrainian military action, no matter how many arms Kyiv is given.

And while the point is put to the test, the danger of further escalations remains acute.

The world realises this, even if Liz Truss does not.”
