Event Date: 10th December 2022
Location: Aldermaston
EMBRACE THE BASE was an iconic nonviolent action in which over 35,000 women encircled the 9 mile Greenham Common nuclear base in Berkshire UK on Sunday 12 December 1982, to highlight and protest against NATO plans to deploy new nuclear armed ‘cruise’ missiles in Europe. The next day, 6,000 women blocked all the gates of Greenham for over 24 hours, preventing access to the USAF military. EMBRACE THE BASE, CLOSE THE BASE brought the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp to international attention, but is not widely known today.
To ensure the public know about this huge event in herstory, and to highlight current nuclear issues, we are holding and supporting various events
