Building community support for a ceasefire this weekend
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the number of deaths now exceeds 11,000, two-thirds of them women and children. Thousands more are reported missing, believed to be trapped or dead under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. Hospitals are shutting down and aid agencies are running out of vital supplies.
Last Saturday, more than 800,000 people came from across the country to march for a ceasefire. The immense, peaceful demonstration was one of the biggest in Britain’s history; it reflected the strength of public feeling and the outrage at attempts by the then Home Secretary to get the march banned. Public opinion is overwhelmingly for a ceasefire and that is also expressed through the lobbying of MPs that is taking place – urging them to get government and party policy changed.
Please help build the call for a ceasefire in your own communities this weekend. Events are taking place across the country on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November. You can find a list of local actions here. New events are being added all the time so please check regularly if your area is not on the list or get in touch if you are organising one!
