Event Date: 16th January 2024
Location: Internet 8pm
We are excited to tell you about our online meeting in January! (All meetings except socials and vigils will be online this year). On Tuesday 16th January at 8pm on Zoom, we are lucky enough to have a live talk by two people who have dedicated their lives to bringing peace to war-torn Colombia. The talk will be called “Civil society Involvement in Peacebuilding in Colombia”, Speakers: Andrei Gomez-Suarez & Dr Gwen Burnyeat, both of whom have been living in Oxford: Gwen is a Junior Research Fellow at Merton College Oxford
https://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/people/dr-gwen-burnyeat and Andrei a Senior Research Fellow in Reconciliation and Peacebuilding, at the Centre of Religion, Reconciliation and Peace, University of Winchester.
https://www.winchester.ac.uk/about-us/leadership-and-governance/staff-directory/staff-profiles/gomez-suarez.php. This is a unique opportunity to hear first hand about grassroots and political peacebuilding, both very much needed skills at the moment!
Andrei has a PhD in International Relations from the University of Sussex and is a Colombian writer, international relations scholar, and peace practitioner. He currently works as a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace in Winchester. Gwen is an anthropologist and until this month a Junior Research Fellow in Merton College, but what made us most curious was the title of her documentary film, “Chocolate of Peace” which you can watch online here:
https://chocolatedepaz.com/english . It is one of the most uplifting stories I have watched recently.
Meanwhile Andrei is the writer and producer of a graphic short story “Jessica: coca-growing, development and stigmatisation in Colombia” and co-produced La Confianza (2018), a song for rebuilding trust in Colombia. He is currently writing a fictionalised memoir about growing up in 1980s amidst political violence in southern Colombia.
The poster for our online meeting is attached, please forward it to anyone you think might be interested!
