Government in court over its refusal to suspend arms sales to Israel

On 23rd April, GLAN and Al-Haq will attempt to take the government to court over its refusal to suspend arms sales to Israel. CAAT is supporting the case, and is organising a vigil outside the High Court from 8am.

The court originally denied permission for the Judicial Review to proceed. This court date will hear arguments as to why the case should go ahead. GLAN and Al-Haq are arguing that arms sales should be suspended because Israel is in breach of International Humanitarian Law. Under its own licensing criteria, arms exports must be stopped when there is a clear risk they could be used to commit war crimes.

Call on the Government to Stop Arming Genocide.

Nothing could be clearer in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza; an onslaught that’s killed over 37,000 Palestinian people, and has included the deliberate targeting of hospitals, refugee camps, journalists and aid workers. Over one million people are now facing a man-made famine.

Pressure is mounting on our government to impose an arms embargo. 

This has included UN experts calling for the suspension of arms sales, over 600 legal experts signing a letter signing a letter saying the UK is likely in breach of international law if an embargo is not imposed, and senior Conservative MP and chair of the Foreign Affairs committee, Alicia Kearns calling called for a suspension, claiming the government is supressing legal advice confirming that Israel is breaching international law.

It is vitally important, and clearly in the public interest that this case goes ahead.
