CND Online Election Briefing: Make peace and disarmament count
Tuesday 25th June, 6.30-7.30pm
With just weeks to go before the general election, many of you are already engaging with your candidates by taking part in our part in our online lobby. To support your actions during this election period, we will be hosting an online briefing to discuss CND’s key political messaging.
It looks likely that Britain’s ‘defence’ policy will remain broadly the same, irrespective of which of the main parties forms the government. But we need to step up pressure on candidates, so they know that these party policies do not represent most voters’ concerns. And we will maintain this pressure for peace policies both before and after the election.
The majority of the UK population oppose nuclear weapons and their priorities for peace and prosperity are clear; the economy and climate fly high on the list of concerns. Nuclear weapons and war don’t even come close.
This election is an opportunity for the peace movement to stimulate a serious public discussion on nuclear disarmament and peace - and to take it forward after 4th July.
It is vital that come Election Day, we vote for candidates that share our values and will take action accordingly.
Join us to discuss these topics and much more.
Chaired by CND General Secretary Kate Hudson; we’ll be joined by guest speaker Michael Burke, Economist, Cllr Russell Whiting, Independent, and Tom Unterrainer, CND Chair.
