US-UK Mutual Defence Agreement Webinar

Event Date: 15th October 2024
Location: Internet, 13:00 - 14:00

Tuesday 15 October 2024 13:00 – 14:00

A joint briefing and Q&A by Nuclear Information Service and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmarment.

Kate Hudson (CND) and David Cullen (NIS) will summarise the main activities under the Mutual Defence Agreement (MDA) and the potential impacts of proposed amendments.

The MDA is the treaty that governs nuclear weapon exchanges between the US and UK, it has been regularly reviewed and extended since it came into force in the 1950s. The current treaty expires at the end of 2024 and the Government has announced proposed amendments that would make the treaty permanent. This runs counter to the UK’s disarmament obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Parliamentarians have until 23 October 2024 to raise any objections. You can ask your MP to sign EDM 123 calling for a debate here
