Nuclear safety critical at Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant after two-week
blackout. Nuclear and radiation safety at the occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear
Power Plant has reached a critical state after two weeks on emergency
generators, Energoatom reported on Sept. 6. The state-run nuclear operator
underscored that the station’s physical condition demonstrates systemic
breaches of fundamental nuclear safety protocols. The facility lost
external power on Aug. 20 and was forced to transition entirely to
emergency generation sources. This marks the 27th full power blackout at
the plant since the onset of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
