Nature and wildlife need protecting from over-development and that includes nuclear power projects. Our picture below shows the landscape already torn up to make way for the Sizewell C reactors in the UK—a project that still may never happen despite the environmental destruction it has already caused.

Trashing nature for nukes

When nuclear regulations get watered down or done away with altogether, that inevitably harms nature, sometimes irreparably if lax safety oversight leads to a major nuclear accident. That’s why the UK organization, The Wildlife Trusts, had plenty to say when the government there looked favorably on the recent Nuclear Regulatory Review that is trying to weaken protections for nature and wildlife to make way for more nuclear power plants. “We can’t afford to destroy the few havens we have for wildlife,” the Trusts said. READ MORE
