Tonight Israel has banned Your Party MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana from entering Israel — because it blames the Palestine solidarity movement for ending its veto over British foreign policy.

It’s right!

Today foreign secretary Ed Miliband said settlers in the West Bank are guilty of “ethnic cleansing,” announced sanctions on trade with illegal settlements, and extended the suspension of arms sales. This would not have happened without the pro-Palestine movement refusing to let Palestine fall off the agenda.

But it doesn’t go far enough.

The government must now recognise what has happened in Gaza as a genocide. This is not just a matter of semantics — the UK is legally obliged to prevent and to punish genocide. By refusing to use the word, the government is evading its responsibility.

Andy Burnham has been PM for 50 days — 50 days in which he has refused to say what genocide experts and human rights organisations know to be true: this is a genocide.

Britain has not merely turned a blind eye to this genocide — it is complicit in it, through intelligence sharing, surveillance flights, arms sales and diplomatic cover.

We need the full truth to come out as a first step to accountability. Sign our petition calling for a public inquiry into Britain’s involvement in Gaza.

And join the protest outside the Labour Party conference in Liverpool on Saturday 26 September (assemble 12pm, St George’s Plateau), and the next national demonstration in London on Saturday 10 October (assemble 12pm, Victoria Embankment).

Peter, Israel bans journalists, humanitarian organisations, solidarity activists and MPs because it wants to stop the world knowing what it’s doing in Palestine. It’s failing.
