The pressure on the government to end their enabling role in the Saudi-led war on Yemen is mounting by the day. The government was forced to defend their intimate relationship with the Saudi regime in Parliament on Monday. The news that the Tory government has licensed £1.4 billionworth of weapons sales to Saudi Arabia since renewing arms sales to the regime in July 2020 has once again demonstrated the scale of this vicious alliance.

Further pressure to end UK support has come from two Democrat Senators in the US. Senator Ron Wyden called on “American allies like the UK and France [to] follow suit immediately and stop enabling the Saudi regime.” This will increase the scrutiny on the UK’s role in the war which is a major obstacle to peace in Yemen.

The fact is we wouldn’t be in this position without the years of work by campaigners and activists forcing this issue onto the agenda. That’s why it’s imperative that we keep up the pressure from below.

We’ve almost reached 5000 signatures on our petition to Boris Johnson. But we know opposition to the carnage in Yemen is far greater than that so we’re asking all our supporters to sign the petition if you haven’t already and to share it as widely as possible. Just use the share tools that you are sent once you’ve signed.
