Back in October 2025, a supposed ceasefire came into effect in Gaza. Since then, nearly 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. Airstrikes, artillery fire and machine-gun attacks have continued on an almost daily basis. The death toll since the genocide began now stands at 73,922.
Throughout this period, the UK has continued to regularly supply weapons into Israel’s arsenal.
Prior to that, the UK was deeply complicit in Saudi Arabia’s bombing campaign against Yemen. The UN estimated that the Saudi coalition’s war from 2015 had killed 377,000 people by the end of 2021 through direct and indirect causes. Over 150,000 of these deaths were the direct result of the armed conflict, while far more have died due to hunger and disease as a result of the humanitarian crisis caused by the war. Recent escalations suggest the UK government has learnt little.
CAAT’s new report: “Dead Letter: how the UK government’s arms export policies have eviscerated international humanitarian law” by Katie Fallon and Sam Perlo-Freeman explores these timelines and uncovers the role our government has played in these atrocities. The report documents Israel and Saudi Arabia’s clear and repeated violations of international humanitarian law, the UK government’s knowledge of those violations and the legal mechanisms they deployed to ensure British arms kept flowing regardless.
Understanding the government’s position that the threat to “international peace and security” from interrupting the F-35 supply chain “would have overridden any further evidence of serious breaches of IHL” – the report makes it clear that for successive administrations, the arms trade has taken precedence over human rights and international law.
We hope that you will join us tomorrow for the online launch – Thursday 24 September from 6:00pm – 7:30pm.
Hear from the report’s authors and from those who have undertaken legal actions against our government to challenge its allegiance to the global arms trade. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
Speakers will include:
The same night, following the launch event, CAAT’s Advocacy Manager Katie Fallon will feature in the new Channel 4 dispatch, Britain’s Gaza Secrets, at 11.05pm. We hope you will tune in!
Investigative research and the subsequent reports are the engine of change – holding our establishment to account, shaping policy, and applying the political and social pressure needed to prevent further complicity in war crimes and genocide.
Help CAAT continue this work, produce more research, push the campaign further, amplify our message across the media landscape, and put a final end to the arms trade.
