Join us on our national Anti-War Tour

Defence Secretary Wes Streeting told Labour’s annual conference that the world is closer to war than at any point in his lifetime. But rather than pushback against the warmongers, it seems he’s doing his upmost to keep it that way, encouraging militarism and rearmament and talking up the threats from Iran, China and Russia.

As the UK’s main bulwark against this push to war, Stop the War has organised a series of rallies around the country to discuss the issues of militarism, rocketing arms spending and the dangerous path governments across Europe are taking. Do what you can to join us.

From 22 October until the end of the month we will be bringing our arguments to a town or city near you. We will be joined by anti-war MPs and trade unionists from France, Germany and Belgium, as well as British trade unionists and activists.

Speakers include:

Jérôme Legavre, MP, La France Insoumise / Ulrike Eifler, German Trade Unions Against War / Zarah Sultana MP / Fran Heathcote PCS / John Rees, Stop the War / Yasmine Adam, Muslim Association of Britain / Andrew Feinstein, author and activist / Daniele Obono MP, La France Isnoumise / Lindsey German, Stop the War / Peter Mertens, General Secretary, Belgian Workers’ Party / Alex Gordon, RMT / Narzanin Massoumi, British Iranian academic / Andrew Murray, Stop the War / Salma Yaqoob, political activist / Kate Hudson, Vice President CND / Chris Nineham, Stop the War / Roxy Farhadi, student activist / Micaela Tracey-Ramos, Vice President, Unison.

Ed Miliband’s admission at Labour’s conference that the Palestine movement was right is very much welcomed. But he must go further. We demand the government reverse its proscription of Palestine Action and drops the charges against the leaders of our movement.

The Wages not Weapons motion passed at this year’s TUC provides us with the opportunity to embed anti-war arguments into local trade union branches and regions. We ask all our supporters to do what you can to ensure our anti-war motion gets passed by your trade union branch and make sure your union is represented at the regional rallies. Bring your banners along to show your support and let us know if the motion passes so we can add you to our list.

Three Years of Genocide

On 10 October the next national march for Palestine will take place in London marking the three year anniversary of the genocide and coinciding with the global day for Palestine.

We need to ensure the London protest is massive. Get organising. Book your transport. Bring your union banners to the union bloc at Cleopatra’s Needle.

Over the past month, young people across the country have been getting organised. Following the success of a 100-strong youth breakout meeting at the International Conference in June, Stop the War student organisers have taken to their campuses in full force – running freshers stalls, setting up Stop the War societies and hosting speaker events. Students are tired of seeing military recruitment on their campuses, and they reject being corralled into research and development careers for arms companies.

That’s why on the 20 November we are calling on students and young people across the UK to organise action at schools, colleges and universities, and to join the student bloc on the national demonstration on 10 October Palestine demonstration.

Together Alliance Summits

Half a million took to the streets in March to stand up to the far-right. But a single day of protest isn’t enough. Stop the War is supporting the Together Summits to help organise the next step in the fight against the far-right.

The summits will take place in Manchester on 17 October and Manchester tickets
