The Fight to be Heard, the new Amnesty International UK documentary on the right to protest, is launching today.
Over the past six years – with the emergence of movements like Extinction Rebellion, Black Lives Matter and Just Stop Oil – we have witnessed one of the most aggressive crackdowns on protest in UK history. From solidarity with Palestinians to climate change, gender justice to workers’ rights, the reasons why we protest may be different. But the need – and right – to be heard is universal.
The Fight to be Heard explores the human stories behind protest. From record-breaking prison sentences to fears of surveillance and criminalisation, this documentary looks at the growing pressures faced by protesters in the UK today – and asks why we continue to do it, despite the risks.
At a time when it’s never been more vital for us to come together, this film is a rallying cry to make sure we continue to have our voices heard.
