Shut down US bases! Kick out Trump’s spy station! Join CND at Menwith Hill, Saturday 24 October

Activists from across the country are joining the day of action at Menwith Hill, organised by CND, Yorkshire CND and the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign. The coach is almost full and we’re looking at booking extra transport to take protestors from Harrogate to protest at the biggest US spy base in the world, outside of the US. So book today to make sure you don’t miss out on a space!

Menwith Hill has distinctive white radome structures which look like giant golf balls. Satellites that feed data to Menwith Hill are being used to intercept electronic communications in the Middle East, to assist the US/Israeli illegal war on Iran. It is also highly likely it has been carrying out a similar role in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.

The day will include a public meeting to discuss the role of Menwith Hill in making the world more dangerous and how we build support for shutting down these US war crimes bases.

The meeting takes place in Harrogate from 12 noon to 2pm. Speakers include Louise Regan, Chair of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Dave Webb, Yorkshire CND, Hazel Costello, Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign and Sophie Bolt, General Secretary of CND. The meeting will be chaired by Rashida Islam from Yorkshire CND.

After a break, transport will take everyone to Menwith Hill for a protest and stunt – involving giant inflatable golf balls! – at 3pm. We’ll return you back to Harrogate for 4:30pm.

Registering in advance is essential so we can book enough transport to and from the base.

People not Nukes: let’s prioritise real security – CND webinar, THIS EVENING!

Ahead of the government’s autumn statement next week, we’re bringing together trade unionists, health workers and climate campaigners to oppose the government’s reckless decision to cut vital infrastructure projects in order to fund further military spending and nuclear weapons.

The impact of these cuts is already being felt, with ministers having announced plans to slash the money available to subsidise heat pumps – devices that help households make crucial savings on heating and cut carbon emissions.

Far from keeping us safer, wasting money on war and nukes is only making the world a more dangerous place. At a time when cost-of-living pressures, and the risks posed by the climate emergency, are growing, the government urgently needs to instead start investing in tackling real human security concerns. Join us to discuss this further at our People Not Nukes webinar taking place this evening!
