Managers of the Scottish home of Britain’s nuclear weapons have been urged
to “step back from the brink” as hundreds of workers get set to strike
today. Members of the Unite union based at the Coulport and Faslane naval
bases on the Clyde will start their rolling daily industrial action over
cost cuts by the Ministry of Defence. It comes as there is a growing
dispute over the Ministry of Defence’s new Future Maritime Support
Programme (FMSP), which could be worth up to £200m to the base.
