Hiroshima Candle Float a success

Posted: 11th August 2016

This year’s Candle Float took place in beautiful conditions, with light winds, a warm evening and a good river level.  It was made even more special than usual by the presence of a group of young people from Hiroshima and Nagasaki who were over in Salisbury on a language course.  They had seen our publicity and had made us paper cranes, important symbols in Japan, which they gave us to include in the Candle Float.  The evening was as ever in commemoration of those who had died and in addition was a poignant reminder of our common humanity.

See the gallery of pictures taken by the Salisbury Journal photographer below and thanks to all who contributed to making the evening so special.
