Faslane blockaded by XR Scotland

Activists from Extinction Rebellion Scotland, alongside veteran peace
activists Trident Ploughshares, have placed three planters on the road
containing plants and flowers painted with the words ‘Safe’,
‘Green’, and ‘Future’. A female Extinction Rebel is locked onto
each planter so that they cannot be moved, preventing access to the base.

The XR Scotland group who blocked the gate at 6.30am with three colourful lock-on planters have had a relaxed morning. There has been lots of media coverage and social media activity.
They tried negotiating with the police and said that if they were left in place until 7pm they would go then. The Police Scotland officer went in to ask the base commander if that was ok.

The answer is obviously NO! The cutting team have but up a barrier and are preparing to cut them out now.

Members of the climate justice group Extinction Rebellion and peace
activists Trident Ploughshares have attached themselves to giant plant pots
at the north gate of the base on the Gare Loch in Argyll and Bute. The
action, which Extinction Rebellion said is part of the Peace Lotus Campaign
which celebrates the anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, is being
used to demand a future safe from the “threat of nuclear weapons and
environmental destruction,” the activists said.

It was 5.30pm by the time the last of the three XR Scotland rebel were cut out of their lock-on so a good 11 hours of the Faslane North gate being closed.
The three have been taken to Clydebank Polis station and charged with Breach of the Peace
