Welfare Not Warfare – Protests and Activities

Protest the Aircraft Carrier

In just over two weeks, the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, a military vanity project bursting with hi-tech weapons, will depart our shores to embark on a 28 week tour to the Indo-Pacific region. Leading a naval flotilla the carrier is intended to project Britain’s power to the world but will serve only to ratchet up tensions in and around the South China Sea.

Stop the War groups around the country are organising protests, online meetings and town centre stalls to oppose the armed flotilla in the run up to its departure from Portsmouth on 23 May. Check out the details of events near youGet in touch if you want to take part or host an action. And if you haven’t done so already please sign our petition below.

At a time when we are struggling to cope with a global pandemic and as an economic crisis looms, the government chooses to spend billions of tax payers money on the largest naval deployment since the Falklands war. This mission is not about defence but about the British government’s obsession with its imperialist past. The anti-war movement intends to make its voice heard and oppose this grotesque project.

National Demonstration 26 June – Demand a New Normal

Stop the War is supporting the People’s Assembly national demonstration demanding the government be held to account for its disastrous pandemic policies and its use of the coronavirus crisis to introduce draconian anti-democratic laws. The Tories are attempting to make protest illegal and are spending billions on military propaganda while refusing to give nurses a pay rise. They must be challenged. The demonstration is supported by the StW, CND, XR, Kill the Bill, the TUC and more.

Let’s make it a day the Tories won’t forget. Join us on the anti-war block. Help build and publicise – bring your friends and share on your social media accounts.
