The Greenpeace lawyer could not believe his ears: at the trial of the
intrusion of activists into a Drôme plant in 2020, the prosecutor
advocated leniency on Tuesday, returning EDF and the State to their
responsibilities in nuclear matter. “We are dealing with determined
activists, with serious questions,” said the representative of the
prosecution about the 34 defendants, 12 women and 22 men aged 28 to 70
years, tried by the Criminal Court of Valencia. Among them, 26 are being
prosecuted for having entered – by cutting fencing – in the enclosure of
the Tricastin power plant on the morning of February 21, 2020, while eight
others, accused for complicity, demonstrated in front of the main entrance
of the site. The purpose of the operation, quickly relayed by the NGO, was
to demand the closure of the plant deemed “obsolete” after 40 years of
operation. Dressed up as workers in a fictitious industrial dismantling
company, the activists had staged a dismantling using a small construction
machine, drums bearing the nuclear symbol, fake giant hammers and
wheelbarrows.

On Tuesday, June 29, 34 Greenpeace activists appeared in Valencia
following an EDF complaint. The electrician is claiming huge damages from
them for breaking into the Tricastin plant site in February 2020, in
Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux (Drôme). Not enough to convince the prosecutor.
