West Midlands CND and Nuclear Ban Communities

Posted: 3rd September 2021

Nuclear Ban Communities

In July 2017, the UN adopted the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which

forbids testing, building, funding and threatening to use them. Cities are the main targets, and now all

over the world they are taking action to push their national governments to join the Treaty.

West Midlands CND is part of this movement to make UK towns

and cities Nuclear Ban Communities. Working with your local

politicians, your town or city council could soon join others who are

already working towards a nuclear free world. Manchester, Leeds,

Oxford and Norwich Councils have already passed resolutions

supporting the TPNW and are calling on the UK Government to

sign it – let’s get the West Midlands signed up too.

To get started, please contact your local councillor to explain that

you would like them to sign a pledge of support for the Treaty. The

names of those who sign would be published on the West

Midlands CND website. Councillors can sign by emailing

[email protected] expressing their support, or by signing a copy of the pledge and returning it to

the West Midlands CND office. Contact WMCND if you need support or further information!
