Stop AUCHUS!

 I’ll get straight to the point: Yesterday, President Biden announced his plans to partner with the U.K. to help Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines.

Yep, you heard that right. They’re calling it AUKUS, but it sounds simply awful. Although Biden said these won’t carry nuclear weapons, helping Australia build them creates a risky new scenario, raising tensions in the Pacific even further, possibly even leading to other countries seeking to build these submarines. This is a dangerous move that creates countless opportunities for mistakes, miscalculation, and escalation whether these submarines carry nuclear-tipped missiles or not.

This is not building back better, this is simply building more tools of war.

Earlier this week North and South Korea both tested their missile capabilities, signaling a growing arms race between them. Adding new means of war fighting to the mix is illogical and irresponsible. This is not what we were promised by the Biden administration and we must demand better. Nuclear-powered submarines bring peace the same way that gasoline puts out a fire, and we won’t buy this administration’s lies that weapons of war will keep us safer.

Write President Biden now! Keep nuclear submarines out of Australia!
