AUKUS Day of Action

This morning we interrupted the party at Downing Street with CND to hand in a letter condemning the AUKUS agreement as we kicked off the international No to AUKUS Day of Action which is happening tomorrow.

The AUKUS pact will see Australia become the key US ally in the Pacific region, armed with US built nuclear submarines. This alliance is designed to threaten China by surrounding it with yet more military facilities despite the fact that the US already has around 400 bases encircling the country.

As Stop the War Convenor Lindsey German said: ”Increased militarisation of the region, sanctions and the threat of boycott of the Chinese Winter Olympics are all creating dangerous tensions which can lead to war. Our government is increasingly belligerent and it has to stop.”

Together with CND we have actions planned across the country. Here’s some of the leafleting sessions and meetings taking place tomorrow. Just click the area nearest you for further details…

If you’d like to hold a stall in your local area just download the materials below and let us know. We’ll help you spread the word.

Stop the War’s Festive Fundraiser

We don’t like to blow our own trumpet but last night’s Xmas Fundraiser was pretty spectacular. Awesome and moving contributions from all our guests were brought together by some real laughs from the brilliant Steve Parry.

With songs for the people of Palestine and Iraq by Shahd Abusalama and David Rovics, Adrian Mitchell’s poetry delivered by Kika Markham and a rousing speech from Jeremy Corbyn, it was full of the type of uplifting spirit we need at this time of year. And to top it of we had a song from Mark Rylance. Well, it’s actually a special blend of two songs. You don’t want to miss it. Watch it above and enjoy.

Once again our lively auction raised lots of money for our campaigning in 2021 and beyond. Thank you to Kevin Courtney for being our auctioneer and all of those who donated such special prizes.

Lastly, thanks to all of you who were part of it. We’re looking forward to next year already!
