Catch up: Stop the War webinar on the Ukraine

Yesterday rather than highlight Liz Truss’ failed visit to Moscow, Labour leader Keir Starmer chose to attack Stop the War Coalition in a Guardian article. It says a lot about the direction of travel for his leadership and the foreign policy priorities of any future Labour government.

Stop the War opposes war in Ukraine and believes the differences between Ukraine and Russia should be negotiated peacefully. Starmer would do well to support the efforts of the French and German governments in the search for a diplomatic solution.

Starmer’s ‘unshakable’ commitment to NATO has the potential to drag Britain into future unwanted conflicts which, if the past 20 years is anything to go by, will be an absolute disaster. The idea that NATO is a source for peace would come as a shock to the people of Afghanistan and Libya, who have both seen their countries destroyed by NATO bombs and forces.

As we did during those attacks, we demand that the British government call for de-escalation and pull themselves away from the military priorities of the USA by developing an independent, peaceful foreign policy.
