Check if your bank invests in nuclear weapons

Posted: 21st March 2018

Dear friends,

Thank you!  Just a two weeks ago we launched the 2018 Don’t Bank on the Bomb report. Thanks to your help we were able to spread the word far and wide about who is willing to profit from threats of nuclear war.

But getting the message out broadly is only the first step. Now that people know how the private sector is financing a new nuclear arms race, it’s time to do something about it.

Is your bank financing a new nuclear arms race?

Click here to see if your bank is on our list

The report profiles 329 banks, pension funds, insurance companies and asset management companies that use their client’s money-  your money- to invest in nuclear weapon producing companies. They do it to make a profit, and at the same time fuel the new nuclear arms race. It’s time to tell our banks to get our money out of the nuclear weapons business.

If you find your bank on our list, send them a message here.

Responses to our report

A lot of banks responded to the report, claiming that they don’t invest in nuclear weapons directly. Some of them got quite angry- and they should. Their reaction shows that the pressure is working!

They are investing their client’s money in weapons of mass destruction that have been prohibited by an international treaty. These financial institutions know they will lose clients and lose money if people know they are connected to the nuclear weapons industry.

If your bank is one that responded by saying they don’t invest directly, we have put together some more information about these flimsy excuses and how to counter them.

But perhaps your bank is one of the good ones?

There are a growing number of banks and pension funds that won’t touch the nuclear weapons industry. You can see a list of them in our Hall of Fame. These financial institutions should get our support and thanks, you can send them a message here.

Thanks again for all your efforts in helping us stigmatize and reject nuclear weapons world wide, our work is having an impact!
